Adopt
A Husky, Inc.
A Siberian Husky Rescue Serving
The Midwest & Pacific Northwest Regions
A 501(c)(3) NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION
Over
1000 Siberians
Saved Since August 1998!
|
Thank
you for taking the time to read a little
more about the group!
Adopt
A Husky, Inc. is an all volunteer, 501(C)(3),
non-profit organization dedicated to providing
a second chance for stray, abandoned,
abused, or otherwise homeless purebred
Siberian Huskies by finding suitable permanent,
loving adoptive homes.
AAHI
is headquartered near the IL/WI border
in Salem WI. We do not have a shelter
facility; our volunteers care for dogs
that come into rescue from the Midwest
and the Pacific Northwest via a network
of foster homes in an area covering IL,
WI, IN, MI, MN, MO, WA, OR, and ID.
We
do our best to match Siberians with suitable
"forever" homes where the dogs
will be taken care of and loved for the
rest of their lives.

Siberian
Huskies have earned a reputation for being
difficult. This is not a low-maintenance
breed. Many people say that this is not
a good breed for first-time dog owners.
Well, all of this is true. However, their
love of people of all ages -- thus excellent
family dogs -- combined with their intelligence,
sense of humor, and athleticism, make
it well worth the effort of coping with
the negative traits.
|
Many
of the dogs that come into our care come to
shelters as strays or are rescued from puppy
mills or irresponsible breeders. There are
many sad stories we could share, but most
have happy endings! Here are just a few:
-
Orion,
the dog who's back was used as an ashtray by his
owner, went through medical treatment and has
been adopted.
-
Natasha,
who was hit by a car and ended up with broken
legs and a broken hip went through many surgeries
before making a full recovery.
-
O'Reilly,
who was tied to a tree and left without food or
water to slowly starve to death, was rescued in
the nick of time and is now happy and healthy
in his new home.
-
Bristol
was left tied up alone in a basement and abandoned
when her owners moved to a new house. She's now
living a great life in her new home!
Like
I said, these are only just a few of the "happy
tails" that we've had over the years!

Husky Hike 2006 - May 15, 2006
|
As
I mentioned in the newsletter, we are currently
gearing up for our major event of the year,
the 2006 "Husky Hike!" At this event
we will have over 200 Huskies and their people
walking a 3 mile course through Wadsworth Forest
Preserve in Northern Illinois.
The
main purpose of this event is to raise money
for abused, abandoned, or injured Siberian Huskies,
so that they may be properly cared for and placed
in good homes.
