These pictures illustrate the shoulder-locking tip that is done just before lifting the weight off the racks. At the start, the hands are placed on the back of the bar rather than the bottom of the bar. Before you begin the rep, rotate the bar so that your hands are under the bar. This movement "locks" in the shoulder joints, placing them in a more stable position. |

When doing the flat bench press, your feet should be placed so that your knees are bent about 80 degrees. This gives your legs the ability to help with the rep by "driving" with your legs. If your knees were straighter, you would not have as much available pushing power. The "driving" technique is explained in depth in the newsletter article. Click here to view. |
