Now that you have all this great knowledge, it is time to put it all together. You must now figure out how to incorporate exercise and healthy eating into your lifestyle.

Here are some tips to help you plan your attack:

1. Write everything down.

  • By writing everything down you are making a commitment to yourself.
  • Write down what you eat during the day, what type of activity you did and what you plan to do for tomorrow.
  • This written commitment will help you to keep the promises you make to yourself to eat right and exercise. A written word is not so easily dismissed as a thought.

2. Change your lifestyle slowly.

  • Many people get too ambitious when they first start out.
  • Don't try and do everything right from the start. Ease yourself into it.
  • Gradual changes in your lifestyle will add up to huge changes in how you look and feel down the road. A sudden change can be too painful and the odds of you quitting go up.

3. Don't let your exercise and eating happen by accident.

  • Planning ahead can save you from failure every time.
  • If you know that Wednesday is too busy to exercise on, don't plan on exercising on Wednesday then get mad at yourself for missing it. Just plan for other days.
  • If you know that you won't have time to make yourself something for lunch tomorrow and will have to get fast food, make something the night before and bring it with you (whenever practical, that is - be honest with yourself).

How to Start - The Fitstep Two-Step

1. Start by doing one set of each of the exercises listed on the Exercises page two or three times per week, e.g. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Do as many repetitions as you feel comfortable with within this set, e.g. 8 wall push-ups. Do not try and push yourself the first few times. Just learn how to do the exercises. Do one set of each stretch from the Stretches page after you've done your exercises.

2. Do not change anything with your diet for the first three weeks. If you try to change everything in your lifestyle all at once, you may not end up changing anything at all. After three weeks of doing your exercises regularly, start to incorporate some of the principles from the Nutrition page into your diet.
