JayFlex Barbell and Kettlebell Handle Review

If you have a home gym with dumbbells, you're going to love this...the JayFlex barbell and kettlebell handles allow you to expand the versatility of your dumbbells into a whole new range of exercises and uses.

I'll be honest...I love the concept of using specialized handles to use dumbbells as weight for barbells and kettlebells.

But does the equipment itself hold up to it's intended usage? And can it really replace a full barbell and weight set or work well for kettlebell training?

How the Hyperbell Handles work...

Be sure to watch the video above for the best information...I go into great detail on how it works there!

The mechanism of how the dumbbells attach to the barbell (or kettlebell) is really quite ingenious. It has clamshell style of clamp that opens up.

You put the clamp around the handle of the dumbbell.

Clamp it down, then spin the locking collar onto the clamp.

It's secure! The more you do it, the easier and more intuitive it gets.

Here's the finished barbell.

The kettlebell handle works exactly the same way, only it attaches to the kettlebell style of handle rather than the bar.

What Exercises Can You Do With a Hyperbell Handle?

Deadlifts...

Hyperbell Handle Deadlifts

Bench Press (you may need a spotter to get the bar set or be sure to use lighter weights that you can definitely handle)

Barbell rows.

Hyperbell Handle Rows

You can do almost any type of barbell exercise that you normally could do...with a few limitations.

The bar isn't big enough to use in a power rack, so to squat with it, you'll need somebody to set it on your back for you or you'll need to use a light enough weight that you can press it overhead and set it into position yourself...AND get it off your back the same way!

You can also attach one end to a single cable handle and do a variety of pulling exercises for back and arms (or woodchop-style exercises for core).

You can even use the clamp part as a "fat" grip on the dumbbell... it actually works extremely good for that purpose!

With the kettlebell handle you can do swings...

Goblet squats (I have the bell of the dumbbell resting against my chest here).

Rows (I use a rest-pause rep here where I rest the weight on the ground in between reps).

I actually don't recommend using the kettlebell handle for exercises like the snatch or clean, though. The "flip" that you do with a regular kettlebell isn't easily done with a dumbbell shape versus a bell.

Conclusion:

If you're really interested in getting some of these handles for home gym use, be sure to watch the entire video above! I go into a lot of detail on how it works, how to use it and some of the downsides of the handles.

Overall, I really like the Hyperbell handles...the barbell one is a stronger piece than the kettlebell handle but both are very useful and highly effective at extending what you can do with your dumbbells.
